Our History

NorthStar is a division of Oriel Services Limited which is a not-for-profit community-based organisation established in 1975 to create employment opportunities for people with a disability. Oriel Services started its great work in the community through the setting up of the supported employment division HiCity Industries (Australian Disability Enterprise) which provided general assembly and packaging services to industry. Since that time HiCity has expanded its services to Clean Room facilities for the packaging of confectionary and non-prescriptive medications as well as the establishment of a Wholesale Plant Nursery and Grounds Maintenance Services. In 1991 NorthStar Specialist Employment Services was established as a Disability Employment Services (DES) to assist and supported people with disability into open employment.

NorthStar has since provided high quality specialist employment services in the Northern region of Melbourne for people with disability and disadvantage. Over time we have built strong links with many local employers both large and small to provide a range of employment opportunities for our jobseekers. One of our key drivers is supporting employers to foster a diverse and inclusive workforce reflecting the diversity of people in our community.
